Samhati was founded in 1984 by a group of women of Bangladeshi origin living in the Washington, DC metropolitan area. We raise funds and try to improve the social and economic conditions of women and children in Bangladesh. Samhati is registered with the State of Maryland as a non-profit organization and has been granted tax-exempt status by the Internal Revenue Service.

Samhati is an all-volunteer organization with no paid staff or office. Accordingly, we have negligible overhead costs and are able to direct almost 100% of contributions to the needy women and families in Bangladesh. Samhati receives no government funding and relies almost exclusively on personal contributions
